Those who know him say that Hiroto Arai was clearly born to surf. With a dad who runs a surf shop, ‘Hiro’ grew up in and around the water, and started surfing when he was just five.
Hiroto has been surfing at international level since 2008, where he made an almost immediate impact. In 2009, he won the All Japan Amateur Championship NSA Champion Games at the age of 14. He followed that up with a fourth place finish at the Quiksilver ISA World Junior Championships in New Zealand in 2010 when he was just 15.
